DOWNTOWN CANTON ICE RINK TO OPEN AFTER SEVEN YEAR HIATUS

Collaborative effort results in the reopening of outdoor ice rink

The City of Canton, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Canton Special Improvement District, Coon Restoration, Canton Parks & Recreation, Arcade Coneys and Center Ice Sports have been working collaboratively to open the City of Canton's downtown outdoor ice rink for the 2016-2017 winter season. The ice rink has been dormant for the past seven years.

The partners are pleased to announce that the newly named Hall of Fame City Ice Rink, located in front of Arcade Coneys ([:https://www.google.com/maps/place/215+Tuscarawas+St+W,+Canton,+OH+44702/@40.7989402,-81.3765819,440m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x8836d078f44ef775:0xaed5bf419e00628!8m2!3d40.7989402!4d-81.3758877?hl=en|215 West Tuscarawas St.:], also known as Courthouse Plaza) will open for the season on Thursday, December 1, just in time for the annual Light Up Downtown event. There will be a youth hockey demonstration that evening at 7:30 pm. Opening festivities will continue on First Friday, December 2, with a figure skating demonstration at 6:15 pm. The general public will also be able to skate on those evenings.

Reopening the rink required a collaborative effort of six downtown partners who established areas of responsibility and a detailed plan to accomplish the project. "There were pages of things that needed to happen to reopen the
rink," said City of Canton Mayor Tom Bernabei. "This is a great example of what can be accomplished by having the right partners at the table and establishing a community goal."

Amenities include: on-site food and skate rentals at Arcade Coneys, lighting for day and evening skating, outdoor seating and broadcasted music via sound system.

The rink will be open Monday-Thursday from 10 am - 7 pm, Friday-Saturday from 10 am - 8 pm, and Sunday from Noon-6 pm. Admission is free, and figure skate and hockey skate rentals are $3.00 per person. Skaters skate at their own risk.
